Unboxing: Ever After Box February 2017 Fairy Tale subscription box

It’s not a secret that romance novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. However, I’m picky. They should be paranormal or fantasy based and I want a good story – not sex for sex’s sake. Occasionally I’ll read a mindless novel, but I prefer authors like Nora Roberts, Charlaine Harris and Heather Graham. It’s hard to find a subscription box that meets my needs.

Ever After Box is a quality book club, but they cover a wide variety of genres. I skip any month that isn’t fantasy related, but if you like a bit of everything, they’re a good choice. February had a Fairy Tale theme, so it was right up my alley. Here’s what was inside.

The box is always mailed in a Post Office bubble mailer. Inside is the box you see up top. It has their logo and a sticker with the theme written on it. When you open the box, the goodies are packed in shredded cardboard and I’ve never had them arrive broken.

Ever After Box Fairy Tale tote bag

At the top of the package was a tote bag with fairy tale books and the box logo on it. This will be great for trips to the library. There was also a notepad with a very pretty illustration from an old book of fairy tales. There was a glass slipper full of candy hearts and two items from author Avery Flynn too. These were a cardboard coaster and a download card for two of her fable based romance novels valued at $2.99 each. The candy hearts had fairy tale sayings on them like ‘Ever After’ and ‘Once Upon a Time.’ Very cute.

Ever After Box Fairy Tale Once Upon a Curse various authors

This month the company sent out one of three possible novels so each recipient got a different book. I received Once Upon a Curse which is an anthology of short stories by several authors. Each one is a dark fairy tale. This book has been on my to-read list on Amazon since I first learned of its existence. The value of the paperback on Amazon is $16.99. It included a mass printed letter from the author.

Ever After Box Fairy Tale The Wrath and the Dawn

The main book this month was The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. I already owned the e-book version of this novel, but I hadn’t read it yet. I own a lot of e-books for the sake of space, but I love a paper copy. I recently switched jobs and have more time for pleasure reading. This is going near the top of the list. The paperback price on Amazon is $6.70. Again, it had a printed letter from the author.

The value of the books alone in this box is worth $29.67. Add in the notepad and the tote bag and you’re definitely over the $29.99 cost of the subscription. Ever After Box always sends items worth more than the package price and you always get more than one book, which is amazing.

Every month has a new theme. Some are contemporary and some are fantasy, but it’s easy to skip any month you don’t want. If you’d like to give them a try, click here.
